SKETCH

"A Journey To The Dreamed Land"

Sketch Team is going to present a story titled ‘A Journey To The Dreamed Land’ which brings the meaning of going back to the past to investigate the reasons of something. This story is about a girl traveling on a journey across time and space to discover the Mystery of her birth. We hope that this story makes everyone know the adversities and hardships faced by the ancestors and that the younger generations are always grateful for everything in life so that the histories, cultures and spirits of Chinese ancestors can be passed from generation to generation. Unlike previous CCN, this performance will not involve the actions of real-life people. Stay tuned to our new way of performance!

SINGING

Singing Team will be presenting 2 songs during our online CCN, which are the theme Song of “The Journey: Tumultuous Times” and “I Can Endure The Hardship”. The lyrics and melody of both the songs may inspire us to trace back to the 20th century when our ancestors undergo much hardship. Other than that, we have also designed some harmony to be added to both the songs hoping that it could be the icing on the cake. Lastly, our singing performance will be presented to you on a pre-recorded basis. Stay tuned!

TRADITIONAL CHINESE DANCE

Traditional dance team is going to present four dance performances based on classical Chinese dance during our online CCN. The chosen musical pieces are “Duo Qing Zhong”, “Fearless”, “Zhe Liu”, and “Zhi Fou Zhi Fou”. Among them, "Duo Qing Zhong" will be presented in a group of three, while the other dance performances will be presented as solo dances. Besides, in order to better incorporate the dance performances into the plot, we looked for the musical pieces that were played with classical instruments. It is noteworthy that the classical instruments such as wind, plucked strings, bow strings, and percussion give the musical pieces and performances a greater ornamental value. Lastly, pre-recordings of each dance performance will be presented during the event. Stay tuned!

WUSHU

The Wushu team of Chinese Cultural Night (CCN) will perform several martial art forms during this online CCN, including Long Fist Style, Sword, Staff and Sabre. This martial arts performance will be presented in a pre-recorded form due to pandemic. Although the form of performance is different from prior years, we are still adhering to pass down the spirit of the martial arts and perform to everyone. So, do look forward to it, and see you soon!

TWENTY-FOUR FESTIVAL DRUM

Twenty-four festival drums are performed in the form of twenty-four single-skin drums representing the twenty-four solar terms, namely Beginning of Spring, Rainwater, Awakening of Insects, Spring Equinox, Qingming, Grain Rain, Beginning of Summer, Xiaoman, Mangzhong, Summer Solstice, Xiaoshu, Dashu, and Beginning of Autumn , Chushu, White Dew, Autumnal Equinox, Cold Dew, Frostfall, Beginning of Winter, Light Snow, Heavy Snow, Winter Solstice, Slight Cold and Great Cold. However，in the performance of this Chinese Cultural Night, there are only Awakening of Insects, Spring Equinox, Frostfall, Beginning of Summer, Light Snow, Rainwater, Summer Solstice, Chushu, Winter Solstice, Qingming, White Dew, Grain Rain will be played. Performers create different drum rhythms for each seasonal drum, with changes in shouts and body movements to form a large-scale drum performance.
