11th CHINESE CULTURAL NIGHT

Cover photo no blur.png

A Journey To The Dreamed Land

This year's USMKK Chinese Cultural Night is entitled as 'A Journey to the Dreamed Land'. With this title, we wish to convey our initial genuine message, which is to appreciate the current harmonious living in our beloved country, Malaysia. Malaysia, formerly Malaya, is a tropical country with a wide array of natural resources, including fertile land for agriculture, minerals, and extensive forests. Malaysia is also safely protected from catastrophic natural disasters due to its strategic geographical position on the equator. On this ground, ancient Malaysia is considered the dreamland of every people. In order to seek a better opportunity to pursue a better life, our predecessors had conquered chains of mountains and travelled far across the south sea until they sailed to this dreamed land – our ancient Malaya. Resulting from the voyages, Malaysia is uniquely diverse with different colours, flavours, sights, sounds, and customs, and its multiracial community contributed to the rich cultural heritage we are proud of today.

HISTORY

USMKK Chinese Cultural Night (CCN) is an annual cultural programme conducted by the organizing committees of the Wushu Club from USM Health Campus (USMKK). This programme was known as the Chinese New Year (CNY) event in the past and under far-sighted transformations, it is now been addressed as the Chinese Cultural Night (CCN). CCN has been established since 2011, with a new theme every year. We wish to convey important messages to the public, particularly the younger generation, to raise their awareness about the importance of passing down our unique Chinese culture and imprint it in their hearts and minds. CCN aims to introduce our Chinese culture to the public, especially to our friends and acquaintances from other races, so that we can promote the culture of tolerance and understanding among students from different races. In addition, this event also aims to foster the relationship among the organising committees while providing a platform for university students to discover their talents in performing Chinese arts.

SPEECH

Yang Berbahagia Professor Dato’ Dr. Faisal Rafiq bin Mahamd Adikan

- Vice-Chancellor of USM -

As named, the 11th USMKK Chinese Cultural Night is an annual event organised yearly by the committee members of the Wushu Club. Although this imposing physical event was forced to be postponed since 2020 in consideration of the unfitting circumstances attributable to the Covid-19 pandemic, yet this year, USMKK Chinese Cultural Night is back virtually with a brand new look. The theme this year is named ‘A Journey to the Dreamed Land’, which illustrates the story of how the ancestors struggled and encountered hardship in order to settle down in Malaya for a better survival and a better living for the family. I was informed that not only USM students are involved in this event, but also the presence of special guests from the community and students from other universities. On behalf of us, I offer my regards to everyone who is joining us today.

In conjunction with this event, we will have a number of fascinating cultural performances presented by talented students from the health campus. On behalf of the management team, we truly encourage and support such cultural activities as we believe that it is essential for our students to possess a variety of soft skills in leadership and event planning besides solely valuing academic performances. This is the testament to the vision and aspiration of the school in shaping graduates who hold the attributes of HEBAT in referring to the excellence in thorough aspects of Holistic, Entrepreneurial, Balanced, Articulate and Thinking. In addition, students should epitomise what it means to have the right balance between knowledge and character, and to integrate arts and science flawlessly. In the 11th USMKK Chinese Cultural Night, our multi-talented undergraduate students will grab this opportunity to prove to you that they not only excel in academic fields, but they can also sing, dance and act. This is truly a holistic and all-rounded group of students and I’m looking forward to more inspiring events and performances led by our brilliant students.
